A change in the seasons requires a change in your skincare routine which not only includes the right products but also proper outerwear and even food. Your skin is your largest organ and acts a protective barrier from harmful environmental elements of the Sun, cold, wind, and pollutants.
With winter's biting cold and brisk winds, your skin in under barrage from the elements much like it is during the summer but only from different culprits. The cold temperatures and biting windchills have a drying effect on your skin and the Sun, while less strong in the winter, still can damage skin from its harmful UV radiation.
"Wrapping yourself in a warm blanket and curling up with a cup of warm tea are both soothing and hydrating for your body, and your skin begs for some of the same."
What you can do to protect your skin during the cold winter months...
Drink lots of water every day to keep skin cells hydrated - this could also include warm herbal teas containing antioxidants
Use a proper moisturizer, both morning and night, to help protect against the cold and wind and to nourish and rejuvenate skin (My recommendation: Repechage Hydra Dew Moisturizing Day Cream)
Wear proper clothing to protect your face from the Sun, cold and wind. (My recommendation: Your mother was right to tell you to wear a scarf)
Choose a mineral-based SPF to protect against the Sun, especially on sunny days where the Sun's rays reflect off snow
Exfoliate your skin at least once a week to help rejuvenate skin cell production which can reduce fine lines, wrinkles and dry flaky skin to enhance the skin's natural glow and vitality (My recommendation: Repechage Honey Almond Scrub)
Food for skin protection and hydration! Certain fruits and vegetables play a huge role in protecting and nourishing your skin. For example, avocados are great for keeping skin cells nourished and hydrated; and pomegranates, berries, and citrus fruits are packed with antioxidants which fight and protect free radical damage.
